Tip-ups

When using tip-ups bait up with good bait and sharp hooks.I like to use a button on my line so that i can set the depth and return to the same depth after catching a fish.I am now using circle hooks to limit the mortality to the fish.

Use a weight clipped to the line to set the depth. Put the bait 6"-9" off the bottom, set the trap. When flag trips, approach quietly, look to see if the spool is turning. Peel some line off the spool, then lightly feel for the fish,if necessary letting line slip through your fingers. When the fish pulls line set the hook. Circle hooks should not be set

hard because you will pull the hook out of the mouth. Just tighten up on the line and the fish will set the hook.
